Information on how to enter AoC’s Beacon Awards, Student of the Year Awards and Student Photographer of the Year Awards will be coming soon. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy reading about the awards and the winners from 2016.
AoC’s Beacon awards is now in its 24th year of recognising and celebrating outstanding teaching and learning in the FE sector. Beacon awards categories include; Practical learning and teaching, Use of technology in FE, Sport in the curriculum, Staff development, Leadership and Governance, Development of transferable skills, College engagement with employers, Careers education and guidance, College/School partnerships, Widening participation in learning, Promotion and delivery of successful apprenticeships and AoC’s Charitable Trust award for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.

AoC’s Student of the Year awards highlight the students from across the country who have gone above and beyond to achieve success. The categories include; 16 to 18-year-olds, 19-year-olds and over and Apprentice.
16 to 18-year-olds – Lotte Gleeson (pictured), Nelson and Colne College
19-year-old and over – Michal Kolanski, Craven College
Apprentice – Zac Challinor, Salford City College
AoC’s Student Photographer of the Year award showcases the outstanding photography by college students. The finalists are chosen based on the level of creativity and the ability to demonstrate a given theme for each year of the competition.
The topic ‘How colleges change lives’ was chosen for 2016 with Edward Thomas (pictured) of Newcastle-under-Lyme College named the winner.
